Union Cabinet clears scheme to absorb 25 per cent of Agniveers

Chief of Defence Staff General N.S. Raja Subramani announced that the remaining Agniveers will receive a two-year service extension.

The Union Cabinet cleared a scheme on Wednesday to absorb 25 per cent of Agniveers into the regular forces based on merit, according to The Hindu.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General N.S. Raja Subramani announced that the remaining Agniveers will be offered an additional two-year engagement period.

The CDS stated that once this extended engagement period concludes, all Agniveers will be inducted into the armed forces, subject to objective selection criteria.

The announcement follows the Cabinet's decision on November 4, 2026, regarding the service tenure and absorption of the personnel.
