Two Naga outfits clash in Noney village gunfight

The confrontation between ZUF-J and ZUF-K militants reportedly followed accusations regarding ties with security forces.

Militants from the Zeliangrong United Front-Jenchui (ZUF-J) and the Zeliangrong United Front-Kamson (ZUF-K) engaged in a gunfight at Taodaijang village in Noney, according to The Times of India.

Three people died in the clash, including two members of ZUF-J and one member of ZUF-K. The ZUF-K group is backed by the NSCN-IM.

The conflict was purportedly triggered by a statement issued by ZUF-K on November 1. In that statement, ZUF-K accused ZUF-J of betraying the Naga by associating with security forces. ZUF-J has been a signatory to the cessation of operations (CoO) agreement with the Centre since 2022.

In Kangpokpi district, the Committee on Tribal Unity, Sadar Hills, has extended its shutdown by 48 hours. The shutdown will now last until 5 pm on November 6.

The committee accused the government of failing to identify those responsible for the abduction and killing of two Kuki-Zo tribesmen last week.

This violence follows a directive from Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, who instructed security agencies to identify active armed groups, excluding those involved in peace talks with the state government.
