Muslims in UP will become leaders, says Owaisi citing US win
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi invoked the Michigan Senate victory of Abdul El-Sayed to call for stronger political identity for Muslims.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday said that Muslims in Uttar Pradesh would strengthen their political identity and become leaders rather than being treated as vote banks. Speaking to reporters, Owaisi cited the victory of Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race during the US midterm elections as an example.
The Hyderabad MP stated that the BJP had previously mocked the name 'Abdul' by claiming such individuals fix punctures. He said that while the Samajwadi Party had suggested 'Abdul' would spread carpets for others, the new goal is for 'Abdul' to become an MLA in Uttar Pradesh.
Owaisi also criticised the Union government regarding the Qadeemi Masjid located near Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. According to reports from ANI and Siasat, the Centre told the Delhi High Court that having a permanent religious structure on government property was incompatible with its secular character.
The AIMIM chief argued that the mosque is a registered Waqf property and part of the country's cultural heritage. He noted that the mosque existed before Delhi became the capital and before the construction of Krishi Bhawan.
He further questioned the government's stance, noting that the Central Vista project was inaugurated with a Bhoomi Puja. Owaisi said that secularism does not seem to be offended by using rituals of one faith for public projects, but is 'allergic' to the mosque.
Regarding electoral rolls, Owaisi addressed reports that no illegal immigrants were found in Hyderabad. He questioned what BJP leaders would say following their previous allegations regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in the state's voter lists.
