Badoni is meant for bigger things but sells himself very cheap: Vijay Dahiya

Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya says Ayush Badoni needs to set higher standards for himself to reach his full potential.

Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya believes Ayush Badoni has the qualities to achieve great things but needs to demand more from himself, according to a Hindustan Times report. Dahiya, who has worked with the 26-year-old at Lucknow Super Giants and now as Delhi coach, noted that the batter does not always set a high enough standard.

The coach spoke to reporters at Palam after Delhi's match against Services ended in a draw. Dahiya said that Badoni sometimes gets affected by a few good deliveries from bowlers and needs to show greater patience and respect for the opposition's efforts.

Dahiya suggested that Badoni needs to spend more time at the crease to score runs in red-ball cricket. He told the Delhi captain that he must be able to negotiate difficult periods before attempting to dominate.

The coach noted that Badoni has recently shown progress by scoring successive double centuries against Gujarat and Jharkhand on difficult surfaces. This follows a period where the former India A captain was left out of the squad for the home series against Australia and the tour of New Zealand.

Badoni will look to continue his form as the Ranji Trophy heads into a break before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy begins on November 14. The India A team is scheduled to play against Nepal in December.
