Meghalaya on track to host 39th National Games

The Games Technical Conduct Committee expressed satisfaction with the progress of venue inspections in Shillong and Jowai.

The Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) stated on Thursday that preparations for the 39th National Games in Meghalaya are moving forward well.

GTCC chairperson Sunaina Kumari said the committee is satisfied with the progress following an inspection of potential sites in Shillong and Jowai from November 2 to 5.

According to Sportstar, the five-member committee was appointed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on October 14.

Kumari noted that various government agencies and departments are coordinating to ensure the event is hosted successfully. She also thanked Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, the Deputy Chief Ministers, and Sports Minister Dr Vijay Kumar.

Meghalaya has suggested 39 disciplines to be held across Tura, Jowai, and Shillong, though the IOA and GTCC will make the final decision. The inclusion of Taekwondo remains subject to the IOA's approval.

Proposed locations include the Shillong Golf Club, Umiam Lake, the North-Eastern Hill University campus, and the JN Sports Complex, which is intended for the opening ceremony. The dates for the Games are yet to be announced.
