Tennis player Jodie Burrage receives death threats and social media abuse

The British player faced online harassment following her recent defeat against Vaishnavi Adkar at the Chennai Open on Tuesday.

British tennis player Jodie Burrage has been targeted with death threats and online abuse following her exit from the Chennai Open on Tuesday. According to Sportstar, the 27-year-old received the messages after losing her round of 32 singles match 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 to Vaishnavi Adkar.

This match marked Burrage's first main-draw singles appearance on the WTA Tour in 16 months. She shared a video on Instagram showing a long series of abusive comments she received after the game.

Burrage posted the recording alongside a caption stating that the experience reminded her of the reasons she had previously left the tour. Many of the messages seemed to come from gamblers who were dissatisfied with her loss.

The incident follows similar experiences for other players, such as Coco Gauff, who reported receiving racist comments on social media last month after a match at the China Open.
