Madhya Pradesh High Court rejects bail for former judge Giribala Singh

The court cited pending forensic reports and digital evidence in the investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of former district and sessions judge Giribala Singh in the case involving the death of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma, according to The Indian Express and Hindustan Times.

Justice Ajay Kumar Nirankari stated that the court would not grant bail at this stage due to the gravity of the allegations and the ongoing investigation.

The court noted that crucial evidence is still being processed, including data extraction from the iPhone of the deceased and forensic examination of CCTV footage from the residence of the accused.

The CCTV footage has been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi to verify its authenticity and ensure no tampering occurred.

The order also mentioned material in the case diary suggesting that Giribala Singh allegedly contacted influential individuals following the incident, which requires further examination.

Twisha Sharma, a former model, died on May 12 at her home in Bhopal. Her family alleged she faced dowry harassment and pressure regarding her pregnancy. Police registered a case against Giribala Singh and her son under the Dowry Prohibition Act and dowry death charges.

The case has been handed over to the CBI.
