Mohanlal named brand ambassador for Kerala KATHIR agriculture project

The initiative aims to foster interest in farming among students through the establishment of agricultural clubs in schools.

Malayalam actor Mohanlal has been appointed the brand ambassador for the KATHIR project, according to reports by ANI and Rediff. The Kerala Agriculture Department is running the initiative alongside the General Education Department to promote farming interests among the youth.

In the first phase, KATHIR agricultural clubs will be set up in 500 schools across the state. The Agriculture Department intends to expand these clubs to every school in Kerala starting from the next academic year.

Agriculture Minister Adv. T. Siddique stated that the actor's involvement would represent a significant step forward for the project.

To ensure the programme runs smoothly, nodal officers will be appointed, and a two-day training session for officials has already been finished in Thiruvananthapuram.

Mohanlal, who said he grows vegetables near his home, described the programme as encouraging. He welcomed the plan to provide weightage marks to students participating in farming and encouraged children to move away from digital screens to connect with the soil.

The actor expressed hope that the project would become a major movement and pledged the support of the Vismaya Shanti Foundation, which operates in memory of his parents.
