Four Tamil Nadu fishermen's bodies recovered after boat capsizes in Andhra Pradesh

Search operations continue for five remaining fishermen missing after their vessel capsized during Cyclone Murasu.

Four bodies of Tamil Nadu fishermen have been recovered after their boat capsized off the Andhra Pradesh coast during Cyclone Murasu, according to the Deccan Herald on Thursday.

Prakasam District Collector P Raja Babu said that a total of nine fishermen had gone missing. Of the four recovered bodies, three washed ashore at Kothapatnam and one was retrieved during search operations.

The Collector stated that the fishermen had set out from Chennai on October 29. While Tamil Nadu officials had confirmed on November 2 that the fishermen and boats were safe at ports, the vessel reportedly began moving towards Ramayapatnam on November 3 without informing authorities.

The boat was caught in severe winds and subsequently capsized while proceeding towards Ramayapatnam, Babu added. The Coast Guard was alerted to launch rescue operations after the incident.

The four bodies are being shifted to the local Government General Hospital mortuary and will be handed over to Tamil Nadu officials after necessary formalities. Search operations will continue to trace the remaining five fishermen.

The vessel, bearing registration number TN 02 MM 2584, was owned by a local fisherman identified as Selvalagan, according to reports from the Deccan Chronicle and Siasat.
