Over 1 lakh people register for rooftop solar in Delhi
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the registrations reflect growing public confidence in solar energy during a summit in New Delhi.
More than 1 lakh people have registered to adopt solar energy in Delhi, according to The Tribune, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Solar Plenary Session of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo at Bharat Mandapam, Gupta noted that the registrations are part of the Centre's PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Under this scheme, the Delhi government provides solar installations for up to 3 kW at no cost to the user. For systems with a larger capacity, subsidies reaching up to Rs 1.56 lakh are available.
The total financial support includes a central subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 and a matching state subsidy of Rs 78,000 from the Delhi government. Gupta launched the Delhi PM Surya Ghar scheme in September this year.
The Chief Minister stated that the administration aims to turn every rooftop in the capital into a clean energy source to help households lower their electricity bills. She said the growing number of registrations shows increasing public awareness and confidence in solar power.
Gupta added that the Delhi government remains committed to expanding clean energy and promoting energy self-reliance. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was also present at the session.
