Stalin alleges power purchase scam in TVK government, demands probe
DMK president M K Stalin has called for an independent investigation into electricity procurement rates from private generators.
DMK president M K Stalin alleged on Wednesday that a large-scale scam exists in the TVK government’s proposal to purchase electricity from private generators. According to The Times of India, Stalin claimed the procurement rates range from ₹35 to ₹41.50 per unit.
Stalin questioned why the TVK government did not opt for lower rates available in neighbouring Kerala. He noted that electricity was available in Kerala at ₹8.64, ₹12.50, and ₹14.50 per unit.
The DMK leader cited media reports regarding the removal of Kerala State Electricity Board chairperson M G Rajamanickam. He alleged Rajamanickam was removed for rejecting an offer to buy electricity at ₹8.6 per unit and instead proposing procurement at ₹14.50 per unit.
Stalin stated that when the Kerala bid for power at ₹14.50 triggered controversy, the Tamil Nadu electricity minister was planning to buy electricity at ₹35, ₹37, or ₹41.50 per unit. He suspected large-scale irregularities in the procurement decision.
The DMK president said an independent and transparent investigation is required because the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption comes under the electricity minister’s purview. He claimed the agency will not bring the facts to light.
