Mayawati to lead Ambedkar tribute event in Lucknow

The Bahujan Samaj Party president will attend the Mahaparinirvan Diwas programme on December 6 following a review of election preparations.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati will serve as the chief guest for a tribute programme on December 6 in Lucknow, according to The Times of India.

The event, held at Samajik Parivartan Sthal, marks the Mahaparinirvan Diwas, which is the death anniversary of Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.

The announcement came during a meeting of the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BSP on Thursday. During the session, party leaders asked Mayawati to lead the annual function, a request she accepted.

The meeting included state, divisional, and district-level officials, including the heads of all 75 district units in Uttar Pradesh. Discussions focused on election readiness, candidate selection, and expanding outreach to various social sections.

Mayawati told leaders that the party aims to strengthen the dignity of the Bahujan community. She instructed functionaries to fix organisational issues within a set timeframe to work towards forming a BSP government in Uttar Pradesh for a fifth time.

The former chief minister also raised concerns regarding the electoral system, mentioning the misuse of money and muscle power. She noted that many citizens want a return to ballot-paper voting instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
