West Bengal BJP government unveils new industry policy to attract investment

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the West Bengal Investment Promotion Policy 2026 to generate employment and accelerate industrial growth.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari unveiled the West Bengal Investment Promotion Policy 2026 on Thursday at Eco Park in New Town. According to The New Indian Express, the policy aims to attract industries and generate employment opportunities in the state.

The policy focuses on accelerating investments in heavy, medium, and small industries through transparent land allocation and industry-friendly infrastructure. Adhikari announced incentive packages offering up to 120 per cent assistance for investments in plant and machinery.

Non-profit service sector units, including hospitals, medical colleges, universities, IT, tourism, finance, and education institutions, will receive a 100 per cent exemption from stamp duty. The Chief Minister also stated that the government has spoken to heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland regarding an investment of Rs 650 crore in Singur.

Adhikari said the government would purchase land itself and is in talks with HUDCO, NABARD, and ADB for funds. He noted that over the past six months, land has been handed over to 33 business groups, including Amul, the Vedanta Group, Campa Cola, and Reliance.

Addressing the state's unemployment, the Chief Minister said there are around two crore educated unemployed youth and 70 lakh migrant workers from Bengal who have left for other states. He stated the government would not organise annual mega events like the Bengal Business Summit to attract investment.

The launch programme was attended by senior ministers Tapas Roy, Swapan Dasgupta, Dilip Ghosh, and Agnimitra Paul, alongside various industrialists and business representatives.
