The fire occurred during maintenance work at an intermediate tank farm in Dibrugarh district on Friday.

A fire at an Oil India Limited (OIL) facility in Tengakhat, Dibrugarh district, killed one person and injured six others on Friday, according to reports from The New Indian Express and The Hindu.

The incident began around 9:05 am at an Indirect Bath Heater (IBH) within the Intermediate Tank Farm. The IBH area had been isolated for maintenance since November 4.

Seven workers from an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contractor sustained burn injuries. While six individuals were rescued for medical care, one person died at the scene.

Of the survivors, five were taken to the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, and one was moved to the OIL Hospital in Duliajan.

The company deployed 11 fire tenders and used a fixed firefighting system and dry chemical powder to control the blaze. The fire was extinguished by 12:30 pm.

OIL has formed an internal inquiry committee to determine the causes of the fire, assess damages, and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.
