West Bengal: Suvendu Adhikari seeks cooperation for new industrial policy
The Chief Minister called for teamwork between the government and various stakeholders to boost industrial growth in the state.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday urged the government, industry stakeholders, and the public to collaborate to speed up industrial growth in the state. According to ANI, Adhikari made these remarks during the launch of the West Bengal Industrial Promotion Policy at Utsari Eco Park.
Adhikari stated that the BJP-NDA is operating in 21 states and noted that West Bengal is 1000-km behind states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. He requested advice and teamwork from lawmakers, the bureaucracy, investors, and trade union organisers to strengthen the sector.
State Minister Tapas Roy described the new policy as a gift for business leaders and entrepreneurs ahead of Dhanteras, Kali Puja, and Diwali. State Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta said the policy provides a basic architecture for investment and signals that investors are welcome in the state.
Dasgupta added that the policy aims to provide a sense of predictability for those looking to operate in West Bengal. He noted that the state was previously thought to be an unwelcoming place for businesses.
Minister Moumita Biswas Misra said the policy was essential because no such system existed previously. She claimed that under the old system, land was unavailable and files would get stuck between desks without defined timelines.
Misra stated that the new policy establishes a clear timeline for completing processes within a set number of days. She said the goal is to restore the former glory of industry and commerce in West Bengal.
