BJP attacks Rahul Gandhi over out-of-context Amit Shah video

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi accused the Leader of Opposition of lacking homework on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi accused Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of circulating a cropped and out-of-context video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday. According to The Tribune, Joshi claimed the video showed Gandhi's absolute lack of homework regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The dispute follows a post by Gandhi on X, where he told Amit Shah not to confuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to arrange an open debate on any platform. Gandhi had previously challenged the Prime Minister to a debate involving the media and the younger generation to discuss whether certain individuals are anti-national.

Responding to the challenge, Amit Shah said at a rally in Karnal, Haryana, that the Centre is ready to convene a special session of Parliament if the Congress formally requests it. Shah told Gandhi to come to Parliament instead of the streets to discuss his concerns if they hold truth and logic.

Joshi further questioned Gandhi's stance on democracy, alleging that the electoral process is only accepted by the Congress when they win. He noted that the Congress lost the 2014, 2019, and 2024 Lok Sabha elections even when no SIR was conducted.

The political tension over SIR has intensified, with Opposition parties organising protests while BJP leaders defend the exercise. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a protest against SIR in Kochi on November 7.
