Delhi Police arrest wanted People’s Liberation Army militant in capital
The accused, RK Regan Singh, allegedly used a false identity and engaged in money laundering while residing in Delhi.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested RK Regan Singh, also known as Gandhi, a wanted cadre of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA). According to reports by The News Mill and The Tribune, Singh was wanted in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at the Thoubal police station in Manipur.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsh Indora stated that the arrest was made by the Western Range-1 unit of the Crime Branch. Singh, a 35-year-old, allegedly used counterfeit identification documents and posed as an attendant for a medical patient while staying in a hotel without an external signboard.
Indora said the accused was the right-hand man of a colonel-ranking officer of the PLA. The police further revealed that Singh's paternal uncle was a funding member of the group. Singh reportedly attempted to mislead investigators by providing a false name, but his identity was confirmed through photographic evidence.
The police alleged that Singh's role involved overseeing ground-level operations, including extortion and forcibly taking over contracts such as road construction. Indora added that Singh also acted as a film producer and moved extortion money.
The PLA is a separatist militant group that has been waging an armed insurgency against the Indian state to create an independent and socialist Manipur. Singh is named in two UAPA cases and multiple extortion cases.
