Authorities bar four Diljit Dosanjh songs at Indore concert

The District Child Protection Officer issued directions to the venue manager citing concerns over the impact of certain songs on children.

Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has been barred from performing four songs at his November 15 concert in Indore, according to reports by The Times of India. The restricted tracks include “Patiala Peg”, “5 Tara Theke”, “Jeb Vicho Feem”, and “Jatt Fire Karda”.

The District Child Protection Officer issued the directive to the manager of the C-21 Mall venue following a complaint from Chandigarh-based Dr Punditrao Dharenavar. The complaint argued that the songs allegedly promote liquor, drugs, and violence, which could adversely influence children.

The official letter to the venue manager noted that children above five years of age will be allowed to attend the show but cautioned that the four songs might have a negative effect on them. The directive cited a July 22, 2019, order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which instructed police to ensure songs glorifying liquor, wine, drugs, and violence are not played at live shows.

In his complaint, Dr Dharenavar requested that the songs be disallowed even if the lyrics are altered. He also sought restrictions on the singer wearing two crossed silver bullet belts, or bandoliers, across his chest, arguing they symbolise gun culture.

The professor further requested that the singer be prevented from bringing children onto the stage due to concerns regarding flashing lights and loud music.
