Governor and CM greet Tamil Nadu people for Deepavali
Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay issued festive greetings to the state after five years, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
Governor Rajendra Vishwnath and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay have extended Deepavali greetings to the people of Tamil Nadu as celebrations for the festival of lights began on Sunday.
The Chief Minister's message was noted as a change in tradition, as he had not greeted the people for the festival in five years, the Deccan Chronicle reported.
Former Chief Minister M K Stalin did not greet the people for this festival during his tenure, though he conveyed wishes for other occasions such as Christmas, Eid, and Pongal.
The greetings received a warm response from the public, with supporters expressing appreciation for the gesture.
In commercial hubs across the state, crowds gathered for last-minute shopping at cloth shops and sweet shops, which saw brisk business.
People also visited cracker outlets in large numbers despite restrictions imposed on bursting crackers.
