RJD MP seeks action against Delhi University professor for alleged insults

Sanjay Yadav wrote to President Draupadi Murmu requesting an inquiry into remarks allegedly made by Professor Sangeet Ragi against the Yadav community.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Sanjay Yadav has written to President Draupadi Murmu requesting strict action against Delhi University Professor Sangeet Ragi for allegedly insulting the Yadav community. According to The Hindu, the three-page letter dated November 6, 2026, was shared with the media on Saturday.

Mr Yadav alleged that the professor used abusive language during a televised public debate on behalf of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He stated that the remarks reportedly included the use of the expression "gawar" in conjunction with the term "Ahir".

The RJD leader expressed concern that the professor, who teaches political science, is strengthening unacceptable caste-based stereotypes. Mr Yadav claimed that Professor Ragi has been notorious for making indecent remarks against women, the Dalit community, and the Bahujan community in television debates.

Mr Yadav requested the President, in her capacity as the Visitor of the University of Delhi, to order an impartial inquiry. He said the action should ensure that no one uses freedom of expression to insult any society or community.

The MP also noted a demand within academic circles for a comprehensive re-investigation of PhD theses submitted by Professor Ragi. Mr Yadav, who is a political advisor to Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, said the scrutiny should evaluate the professor's research methodology and the authenticity of his sources.
