Congress donations fall 75 per cent to Rs 131 crore
The party's contributions exceeding Rs 20,000 reached their lowest level in three years during the 2025-26 period.
The Congress party received Rs 130.7 crore in contributions exceeding Rs 20,000 during 2025-26, according to a report by The Times of India. This figure is approximately one-fourth of the Rs 517.4 crore in donation receipts recorded in 2024-25.
The Prudent Electoral Trust provided 19 per cent of the total donations for the 2025-26 period. This is a decrease from 2024-25, when the trust accounted for 41.8 per cent of the party's contributions.
The trust's specific contribution to the party was Rs 25 crore in 2025-26. This was 11.5 per cent of the Rs 216 crore the trust channelled to the party in the previous year.
The current receipts of Rs 130.7 crore are nearly 53 per cent lower than the amount received in 2023-24. This decline occurred despite the Bihar assembly elections and upcoming polls in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry in April 2026.
Nine contributions of Rs 1 crore or more accounted for Rs 43 crore, nearly one-third of the total receipts. In contrast, 1,321 contributions of Rs 5 lakh or less totalled Rs 37.2 crore.
The party's audit report for 2025-26 is not yet available and is expected to provide details on other funding sources.
