Mamata Banerjee slams BJP over alleged attack on Abhishek Banerjee's home

The former West Bengal Chief Minister challenged the BJP to use bulldozers after clashes broke out at her nephew's residence.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of involvement in an attack on the MP's Kalighat residence on Saturday. According to ANI, the incident occurred around 2 am during celebrations for Banerjee's 39th birthday.

Banerjee, the Diamond Harbour MP, claimed that unidentified individuals had been monitoring his office and home for two days prior to the incident. He alleged that BJP supporters attacked his house at 2 am and stated this was the seventh attempt on his life in six months.

Clashes between TMC workers and BJP supporters reportedly took place between 2 am and 3:30 am, leaving at least eight people injured, including three seriously. TMC workers alleged that BJP supporters raised 'chor-chor' slogans and vandalised banners and cutouts.

Mamata Banerjee joined the protest at the Kalighat residence and accused the BJP of using hooliganism to disrupt traditional Kali Puja celebrations. She alleged that permissions for long-standing pujas were revoked while a new puja was permitted on the main road, blocking access to her home.

The former Chief Minister challenged the BJP to use bulldozers against her following the unrest. She also stated that her party is being targeted due to its membership in the INDIA alliance.

Banerjee has demanded an inquiry into the matter, tagging the Lok Sabha Speaker, Kolkata Police, and the Union Home Ministry in his demands for an investigation.
