Chennai Open singles final postponed due to rain and poor air quality

The match between Janice Tjen and Magda Linette will now be held on Monday at 11 a.m.

The women's singles final of the WTA 250 Chennai Open between Indonesia’s Janice Tjen and Poland’s Magda Linette was postponed on Sunday due to rain and poor air quality, according to The Hindu and Sportstar.

The match was originally scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at the SDAT Stadium in Nungambakkam. While the doubles final finished without interruption, the singles final faced three delays due to rain.

Organisers initially planned to start the match at 9 p.m. after drying the centre court, but play was called off an hour later due to smog from Deepavali firecrackers. Accuweather described the air quality as unhealthy at that time.

The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) said in a statement that the final has been postponed due to unforeseen weather conditions and will now take place on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 11 a.m.

The Tamil Nadu Tennis Association announced that spectators with valid tickets for Sunday's play can enter the venue on Monday using the same tickets.

Weather disruptions have affected this edition of the tournament, which saw a complete washout on the opening day of the main draw. This is the last Tour-level event on Indian soil for the foreseeable future, as the tournament has been reallocated to Manila, the Philippines, for 2027.
