The 7.5-km stretch will expand Bengaluru's operational metro network beyond the 100-km mark for the first time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 7.5-km elevated section of the Bengaluru Metro Pink Line on November 13, according to reports from The Hindu, Mint and Moneycontrol. The new stretch connects Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere in south Bengaluru.
The inauguration will increase the operational network of Namma Metro from 96.1 km to 103.6 km. This expansion will make it India's second-largest metro network after Delhi. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya stated that the Prime Minister is likely to travel from Tavarekere to the IIMB-Bilekahalli station before launching commercial services.
The elevated section includes seven stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIMB, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital, Ragigudda and Tavarekere. The Jayadeva Hospital station will provide an interchange with the existing Yellow Line. The stretch received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on October 28.
Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the government worked with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to address hurdles. He noted that the government aims to expand the metro network to 170 km by 2027.
The complete Pink Line corridor will run for approximately 21.25 km, connecting Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. This includes a 13.76-km underground section that is still undergoing work, including the installation of signalling systems. BMRCL is targeting May 2027 for the opening of the entire Pink Line.
