CPI(M) to launch indefinite sit-in protest over Adoor police station attack
The party demands arrests and action following an alleged assault on a person in custody and the intimidation of police personnel.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has announced an indefinite sit-in protest starting on November 9 regarding an alleged attack at the Adoor police station, according to The Hindu.
CPI(M) district secretary Raju Abraham said approximately 5,000 party workers will participate on the first day. He stated the agitation will continue until action is taken in the case.
The controversy involves an alleged attempt by Youth Congress workers to assault YouTuber Rajan Joseph on July 11 while he was being brought to the station for a defamation case. CCTV footage released recently purportedly identifies Youth Congress leader Feni Ninan among those involved.
The footage also shows Sreenadevi Kunjamma, a Congress leader and Pathanamthitta district panchayat member, entering the station and confronting the person in the lock-up. Abraham alleged that the assault on a person in custody and the intimidation of police by a district panchayat member amounted to an attack on the police force.
Abraham further alleged that only minor charges had been invoked despite the assault on police personnel. While a case was registered, the investigation had made little progress until the visuals surfaced publicly a few days ago.
