People paid up to Rs 50,000 for LPG connections under Congress, says Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that obtaining cooking gas connections previously required paying large sums of black money.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that citizens had to pay between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 to secure LPG cylinder connections during the Congress government's tenure.

Speaking at a Lucknow event, Adityanath distributed LPG cylinder refill subsidies to more than 1.89 crore eligible households under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), according to the Deccan Herald.

The Chief Minister stated that before 2014, getting a cooking gas connection was a difficult struggle involving many obstacles.

Adityanath alleged that people often had to pay Rs 25,000, Rs 35,000, or Rs 50,000 in black money for a single connection under the previous administration.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to end the practice of paying bribes for connections after being moved by the sight of tears from mothers and sisters when the PMUY was launched in Ballia on May 1, 2016.

Adityanath described the direct transfer of cooking gas subsidies into accounts as good governance that helped people save the money they previously spent on bribes.
