Former J&K minister Prem Sagar Aziz rejoins Congress
Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hameed Karra said the return of the former minister reflects a changing political landscape.
Former Jammu and Kashmir minister Prem Sagar Aziz rejoined the Congress on Tuesday, according to the Daily Excelsior. Aziz, who is from the Bani-Basohli area in Kathua district, had previously been a member of the party for 45 years.
Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hameed Karra welcomed Aziz and his supporters in the presence of senior leaders, including working president Raman Bhalla. Karra stated that Aziz had served the party with dedication, rising from the block level to become a minister.
Karra claimed that the BJP has used religion, caste, and divisive politics to stay in power. He further alleged that the BJP used populist and opportunistic policies for electoral benefits and weakened the country's composite culture, known as Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb.
Aziz, who joined the BJP in October 2021 after leaving the National Conference, said his return after eight years reaffirms his commitment to the party leadership. He noted that he had previously served as a state vice-president, MLA, chief whip, and minister.
Recalling his past, Aziz acknowledged that his earlier departure had caused displeasure among party leaders but said certain circumstances forced his decision. He assured the leadership that he would continue to work for the people and the party.
