Karnataka bus fares to increase from November 5
Transport Minister Bairathi Suresh said rising diesel prices have caused the state-run transport corporations to face significant financial losses.
Karnataka bus fares will rise starting November 5, according to Transport Minister Bairathi Suresh, who spoke to reporters in Chikkaballapur on Sunday. The exact amount of the increase will be determined following a meeting with state transport corporation officials on November 4, Urban Acres reported.
Minister Suresh stated that the fare revision is necessary because increasing diesel prices have placed a financial burden on the four state-run transport corporations. He said these corporations are facing annual losses of approximately ₹2,000 crore due to diesel price hikes over the last year.
The minister added that the four corporations are already carrying cumulative losses of about ₹9,000 crore. He noted that the state Cabinet recently discussed the proposal to revise passenger fares to address this financial pressure.
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and the Transport Department have been tasked with deciding the fare revision. A meeting between the Transport Department and corporation officials on November 4 will establish the scale of the hike.
The revised fare structure will be implemented on November 5. The four state-run corporations provide bus services for passengers travelling within cities and between various towns and districts in Karnataka.
