Bihar: ASI allegedly kills one, injures three after firing on villagers

Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandramohan Singh is absconding after allegedly opening fire from inside a house in Madhubani district.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly opened fire on villagers in Balirajgarh village, Madhubani district, late on Monday night, leaving one person dead and three others injured, according to The New Indian Express and The Hawk.

The deceased, identified as Ashok Yadav, died after sustaining bullet injuries. The injured include Phulo Devi, Vijendra Yadav, and Dhanik Lal Yadav, who are receiving medical treatment.

Madhubani Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogendra Kumar stated that the accused, ASI Chandramohan Singh, was posted at a nearby police picket. The SP said Singh had allegedly been visiting the village frequently due to an illicit relationship with a local woman.

The incident reportedly began when Singh entered a house in the Babubarhi police station area. A neighbour, Phulo Devi, allegedly noticed him and locked the door from the outside before raising an alarm, causing villagers to surround the building.

The SP said the officer allegedly fired three to four rounds from his service weapon to protect himself from the gathering villagers. Singh has since gone into hiding.

Police have suspended the ASI with immediate effect and are registering a murder case. Two special teams have been formed to arrest him, and additional security personnel have been deployed in the village to manage tensions.
