Minister asks Telangana government to declare three mandals as drought areas

Telangana BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has requested Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to grant drought status to specific mandals in Siddipet district.

Telangana BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has requested Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to declare the Husnabad, Koheda and Akkannapet mandals in Siddipet district as drought mandals, according to Urban Acres.

Prabhakar stated in a letter to the Chief Minister that these three mandals, located within the Husnabad Assembly constituency, have experienced severe rainfall deficits. He attributed the lack of adequate rain to the El Niño effect.

The minister said the deficient rainfall is impacting agriculture and could lead to drinking-water shortages for residents in the coming days. He noted that farmers and the public are facing severe difficulties due to the conditions.

Prabhakar mentioned that residents in the affected villages have been passing unanimous resolutions to seek drought status. He noted that only two of the seven mandals in the Husnabad constituency have been declared drought mandals so far.

The minister has asked for the inclusion of these three mandals in the drought list to allow for the initiation of necessary relief measures. The state government will now decide if the areas qualify for the declaration.
