BJP demands CBI probe into alleged Punjab PCS Mains irregularities

The party accused the Aam Aadmi Party-led government of protecting a paper leak and selection racket.

The BJP has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the recently announced Punjab Civil Services (PCS) Mains examination results, alleging fraud and corruption, according to reports by ANI and The News Mill.

BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said on Thursday that the results, which were released on Wednesday night, showed significant irregularities. He claimed that candidates whose roll numbers were not registered for the exam were among those selected.

Bhandari further alleged that approximately 25 per cent of the successful candidates originated from a single examination centre located in the constituency of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA. He also stated that the commission failed to follow the standard procedure of inviting three times the number of appearing candidates for interviews.

Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar also demanded a CBI investigation, alleging the examination had been hijacked. In a post on X, Jakhar claimed that 10-11 candidates had been selected from individual examination rooms and that 86 selected candidates appeared in consecutive groups of three or four in the roll number series.

Jakhar questioned if favoured candidates were deliberately given consecutive roll numbers and noted that the Mann government had faced similar recruitment allegations previously. The reaction from the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and the state government is awaited.
