Ramayana: Rise Of A Legend collects over Rs 40 crore on day 1

The Ranbir Kapoor and Yash starrer is projected to reach Rs 70 crore in India if current trends continue.

Nitesh Tiwari's film 'Ramayana: Rise Of A Legend' has opened in theatres worldwide, according to the Times of India. The movie, which reportedly has a budget of Rs 1,600 crore, is being described as the most expensive Indian film ever made.

By Thursday afternoon, the film had earned a net collection of Rs 40.97 crore in India. The Hindi version contributed Rs 20.95 crore to this total, while the Kannada version, featuring Yash as Ravana, recorded Rs 3.45 crore.

The Telugu version has shown decent performance, whereas the Tamil and Malayalam versions have provided smaller contributions. These figures remain provisional as the day progresses.

The film is aiming for a net opening of Rs 70 crore in India. If it reaches this target, it would exceed the opening-day totals of 'Animal' at Rs 63 crore, 'Drishyam 2' at Rs 62 crore, and 'Pathaan' at Rs 57 crore.

The production is looking to challenge the Hindi opening-day record of 'Jawan', which earned approximately Rs 75 crore. Its primary benchmark is 'Dhurandhar 2', which set a record with Rs 102 crore net earlier this year.

The box office success of the film during the upcoming Diwali weekend is expected to rely heavily on word of mouth.
