DRDO successfully tests Pralay quasi-ballistic missile off Odisha coast

The successful flight test of the indigenous missile makes its induction into the military imminent, according to the Defence Ministry.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight test of the indigenously developed Pralay quasi-ballistic missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast at approximately 11:10 am on November 5, according to The Indian Express.

The test was carried out as part of user evaluation trials. Data from various range instruments at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, confirmed that all test objectives were fully achieved.

The Pralay is a solid-propellant missile that uses modern guidance and navigation for high precision. It has a range of 150 to 500 km and can carry multiple categories of conventional warheads against different targets.

The system was developed by the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, alongside other DRDO laboratories. Bharat Dynamics Limited, a development-cum-production partner, manufactured the missile.

The flight test took place while senior DRDO officials, industry representatives, and members of the Defence Forces were present. The Defence Ministry stated that the successful test means the induction of the system is now imminent.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the DRDO, the Defence Forces, and industry partners, noting the missile would improve military operational preparedness. Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh also congratulated the teams involved.
