Two projectiles strike Iran's Qeshm Island near Strait of Hormuz
Iranian media reported missile impacts on the island while military sources claimed the interception of American drones.
Two projectiles struck the Suza area of Qeshm Island in southern Iran on Saturday, November 7, according to reports from Iranian media outlets, Siasat and Deccan Herald. Local witnesses reported hearing an aircraft over the island before the impacts occurred.
The state news agency IRNA reported that a US MQ-1 drone was brought down over the island by a new air defence system operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Additionally, state broadcaster IRIB quoted the Iranian army stating that a US MQ-9 drone was destroyed over the island.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency said that initial reports indicated the missile strikes, but no official information regarding potential damage was immediately available. Further details are expected once relevant authorities confirm the incident.
Al Jazeera reported that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) described the situation near Qeshm Island as relatively calm. A CENTCOM official noted they were aware of reports concerning explosions but did not provide additional comments.
In a separate development, Qatar’s International Media Office denied reports that the United States and Iran had failed to reach a peace agreement. The office stated that the Qatari prime minister affirmed both sides are still working toward an agreement through ongoing mediation efforts with Washington and Tehran.
