Gujarat official suspended over non-functioning streetlights during PM Modi visit
Mahesh Vasava, the lighting department in-charge, faces suspension for alleged negligence after streetlights failed to work during the Prime Minister's convoy passage.
A Dabhoi Municipality official has been suspended for alleged negligence after 14 streetlights failed to function along a road used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy on October 31, according to Rediff.
Dabhoi Municipality chief officer Viraj Shah suspended Mahesh Vasava, the in-charge of the lighting department, under Section 48 of the Gujarat Municipalities Act, 1963. This section deals with penalties for negligent officials.
The lapse was identified on the evening of October 31 as the convoy travelled from Ekta Nagar to Vadodara. The highway connecting Vadodara with the Statue of Unity passes outside Dabhoi.
The suspension order stated that two streetlights in the Nandodi Bhagol area and 12 lights along Shinor Crossroads and Sarita Bridge did not function. Some other lights were flickering when the convoy passed.
Prime Minister Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the Statue of Unity in Narmada district on October 30 and 31 to attend National Unity Day celebrations.
