PM Modi to inaugurate Bengaluru Metro Pink Line on November 13
The opening of the elevated section will take the city's operational metro network beyond 100 km.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the elevated section of the Bengaluru Metro Pink Line on November 13, according to reports from The Hindu and Deccan Herald. The inauguration will mark a significant expansion of the city's public transport infrastructure, pushing the operational network past the 100 km mark.
Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya said the Prime Minister will travel from Tavarekere to IIMB-Bilekahalli to launch the services. The ceremony is expected to take place near Bannerghatta Road, after which the Prime Minister will travel to Mysuru for a public programme. Public service is likely to begin the following day.
The elevated Pink Line connects Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere and includes six stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIMB, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital, and Tavarekere. Jayadeva Hospital will serve as the city's third interchange station, connecting with the Yellow Line.
Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda stated that the government worked with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) and other agencies to resolve bottlenecks and accelerate the project. He noted that the government aims to expand the metro network to 170 km by 2027.
A senior official said BMRCL plans to run between five and six trains on the route. During peak hours, trains are expected every six minutes, while non-peak hour frequency will be every 10 minutes.
While the elevated section opens soon, a 13.8-km underground stretch is still being completed. Commuters have expressed concerns that the partial opening could increase passenger pressure at existing stations and congestion at the RV Road interchange.
