The new 7.5-km elevated stretch will take the city's metro network to 103.6 km.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Namma Metro Pink Line in Bengaluru on November 13, according to reports from Financial Express, Deccan Herald and Urban Acres. The Prime Minister is expected to travel from Tavarekere to the IIM-Bilekahalli station to launch the services.
The inaugural section is a 7.5-km elevated stretch connecting Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere. It includes six stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIM-B, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital, and Tavarekere. The Jayadeva Hospital station will serve as the city's third interchange metro station, connecting to the Yellow Line.
With this addition, Bengaluru's operational metro network will reach 103.6 km, making it the second-largest in India after Delhi. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya stated that the network has grown from 7 km in 2014 to the current size.
The Pink Line will eventually feature 18 stations, comprising the 7.5-km elevated section and a 13.76-km underground section. The full corridor is intended to connect locations including MG Road, Pottery Town, and Nagawara.
Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the project faced challenges regarding land acquisition and underground tunnel construction. He noted that the state government worked with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to resolve these obstacles.
The government is targeting a total operational metro network of 170 km by 2027. BMRCL plans to operate five to six trains on the new route, with a peak-hour frequency of six minutes.
