Youth Congress suspends office-bearers for missing Rahul Gandhi rally in Delhi

Over 200 members across several states were suspended for organisational indiscipline after failing to attend the INDIA bloc rally.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has suspended over 200 office-bearers for failing to attend the INDIA bloc rally in New Delhi on November 1, according to reports by Times of India and Odisha Bytes. The rally, led by Rahul Gandhi at Ramlila Maidan, targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding alleged issues with electoral rolls.

IYC chief Uday Bhanu Chib said approximately 20,000 workers attended the event, but some office-bearers were missing. Chib stated it was important to send a message regarding discipline, noting that it is not acceptable to abstain during serious times.

The suspensions involve members from 12 states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Telangana. Times of India reported that over 300 office-bearers were suspended for not attending and failing to log reasons for their absence on the 'With IYC' app.

Some suspended members cited personal reasons for their absence. Rohit Rajoria, general secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress, said he could not attend because of his uncle's 13th-day death ritual. Other leaders cited a wedding, a birth celebration, or illness as reasons for missing the event.

The BJP has criticised the move, stating that members of the youth wing did not attend the rally. The IYC noted that suspended members could be reinstated if they perform well in the future.
