Owaisi urges Uttar Pradesh Muslims to strengthen political identity after US win

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi cited Abdul El-Sayed's Michigan Senate victory to call for greater political assertion in Uttar Pradesh.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called on Muslims in Uttar Pradesh to assert their political presence, citing the recent election of Abdul El-Sayed to the US Senate. According to reports from The Times of India and India TV, Owaisi drew a comparison between El-Sayed's success in Michigan and the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh.

El-Sayed, a 42-year-old public health advocate of Egyptian descent, defeated Republican Mike Rogers to become the first Muslim elected to the US Senate. In the Michigan race, El-Sayed secured 22.07 lakh votes, representing 51.97 per cent of the total, while Rogers received 19.55 lakh votes, according to India TV.

Writing on X, Owaisi stated that an 'Abdul' has won in Michigan and suggested that the 'Abdul from Uttar Pradesh' must now bolster his political identity. He alleged that the Sangh has attempted to use the name 'Abdul' as a taunt and said that the time has come to show that 'Abdul does not bow to anyone but Allah.'

Owaisi further remarked that they 'will no longer lay out the prayer mat' in reference to political submission. These comments come as the AIMIM seeks to increase representation for the Muslim community ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled for early 2027.

El-Sayed, who previously led the health department in Detroit and Wayne County, campaigned on issues including 'Medicare for All' and campaign finance reform. He expressed gratitude to his supporters, noting that the victory belonged to everyone who supported his campaign.
