Russian President Putin meets Iranian security chief Rezaei in Moscow

The high-level meeting at the Kremlin included senior Russian officials and involved a message from Iran's Supreme Leader.

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian security council chief Mohsen Rezaei at the Kremlin in Moscow on Thursday, according to a Times Now report.

The Kremlin stated that the discussions included senior Russian officials such as military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov and presidential foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov.

Iranian state media reported that Rezaei provided Putin with a message from Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, though the specific contents of the message and the talks were not released.

The engagement occurred during a period of regional tension and follows the 2026 US midterm elections, where Democrats regained control of both chambers of Congress.

In a post on X, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf criticised American leadership, alleging officials brought "losing gambler energy" to discussions while the US faces an "Israel-First cliff."

US Vice President JD Vance linked the midterm election losses to the conflict, a view President Trump acknowledged regarding short-term economic strain like gasoline prices, though Trump defended the decision by stating Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.
