Rahul Gandhi accuses Punjab CM of failing to curb drug abuse
The Congress leader alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government is being controlled from Delhi by Arvind Kejriwal and Amit Shah.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of failing to tackle the state's drug problem during the party's ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Sangrur on Wednesday, according to Outlook.
Recalling their time in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi alleged that Mann's breath smelled of alcohol by 11 am. He said that while drinking is a personal choice, a chief minister cannot be under the influence every evening if they want to fight substance abuse.
Gandhi further alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is being controlled from Delhi. He claimed that AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are influencing the state government, stating that the reins are held half by Shah and half by Kejriwal.
The Congress leader questioned the AAP's record, asking where they had managed to eliminate drugs from Punjab. He said the party had promised to eradicate the menace but was incapable of doing so.
Gandhi also noted that when he previously raised concerns about the drug menace, the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal had dismissed his warnings. He stated that Punjab needs industries and a strong agricultural sector to create opportunities and prevent drug abuse and gangsterism.
Regarding the drug crisis, Gandhi challenged Amit Shah's claim that the problem would be eradicated within three years, stating his assessment is that the current government will not last a year.
