Assam CM attacks Rahul Gandhi over electoral record and foreign travels
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticised the Congress leader for spending significant time abroad and failing to win elections.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that Gandhi spends more time outside India than within the country. According to ANI, Sarma also remarked that while cricketer Sachin Tendulkar scored centuries in cricket, Gandhi has scored a century in losing elections.
Sarma stated that the BJP wins support through decisions such as the construction of the Ram Mandir, the abrogation of Article 370, and the introduction of Agniveer. He suggested that Gandhi should spend time at the BJP office to understand how the party gains public support.
The Chief Minister further claimed that Gandhi travels frequently to locations including Vietnam, Pakistan, and Bangkok. Sarma also noted that Gandhi does not post Instagram reels while he is travelling abroad.
Separately, Sarma announced that the Assam Cabinet has amended government service rules. Under the new provision, a government employee will face dismissal for entering a second marriage or abandoning a first wife to live with another woman.
These remarks come after Gandhi challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an open debate regarding allegations of foreign influence and India's financial system. Gandhi had also suggested that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat could serve as a moderator for the discussion.
