Yogi Adityanath urges people to gift ODOP products this Diwali

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said purchasing One District One Product items would support local artisans and strengthen the state's self-reliance.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday appealed to residents to choose products from the state's One District One Product (ODOP) initiative as gifts this Diwali. According to reports by Mint and The Times of India, the Chief Minister urged people to consider the work of local artisans and craftspeople when buying gifts for family and friends.

Adityanath stated on the social media platform X that ODOP products account for nearly 50% of Uttar Pradesh's exports. He also noted that 81 Geographical Indication (GI) tags have helped the state's distinctive products gain international recognition.

The Chief Minister said the ODOP scheme, which promotes products associated with individual districts, has given traditional arts and crafts a wider identity. He described the initiative as a way to recognise the cultural heritage of the state and the people who sustain its traditional crafts.

Linking his appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for Local' campaign, Adityanath said promoting indigenous goods would reinforce the goal of building a self-reliant Uttar Pradesh. He added that choosing these products would be a tribute to the efforts of artisans, craftspeople, and entrepreneurs.
